About BTM United FC
BTM United FC was founded in 1969, based in Bedwas, Caerphilly and playing in the Taff Ely & Rhymney Valley (TERV) League. From humble beginnings, the club aims to provide football for 5 - 16-year-olds and is FAW Accredited.
Background:
- BTM was originally set up around 1967/68 by Mr. Ken Morgan and Mr. Tommy Williams. At that time the club ran just one side with the Under 16's.
- In 1972 the BTM Under 16 side were unbeaten - they drew just 1 match in 22 - winning the other 21 games.
- In 2001/02 BTM also had a side that went the whole season undefeated in the league.
Progressed to Professional Standard:
Over the years some players who progressed through the club went on to play professionally;
- Jason Perry captained Cardiff City for 5 years
- Dr. Christian Edwards signed for Nottingham Forest and currently Manages Cymru Premier League club Cardiff Metropolitan University FC
- David Pipe signed for Coventry City, Bristol Rovers and has recently retired playing for Newport County
- Whilst Mr. Ronnie Bird ex Cardiff City coached teams for BTM.
Other Ex BTM Players:
- Ray Williams and Stephen Harris both won Wales Under 18 Caps,
- Craig Williams had trials with Luton Town and was poised to have a trial with Man Utd when he unfortunately broke his ankle, whilst Paul Jones had trials with West Ham.
We have a strong relationship with our Community Council; in fact, some of our local councilors sit on our Committee, some of whom have been associated with the club since the very early days.
